Kettering
Student Emily Balthrap was named a finalist in Google’s
“Doodle 4 Google” Contest. She was chosen from thousands of
students across the nation for her artistic merit. Bathrap's project was titled
“What if we understood Autism?”
Autism first came to the
public eye in the 1930’s. From then on it has grown at a
rapid pace.
Autism is a brain
development disorder that impairs social interaction and
communication, and causes restricted and repetitive
behavior, all starting before a child is three years old. With every 1 in 150 infants showing signs of autism,
concerned parents and well educated doctors are all asking
the same question, “What causes this?” Science has very
little leads as to what causes autism including childhood
vaccinations and genetic heritability, both however have
very little evidence. Medications and programs are able to
help people with autism but they are not the solution. In
order to find a solution, we need to find the problem
causing this disorder. Therefore, I propose a national
Autism Awareness Day complete with is own Google title. |
