The Waterford READS initiative addresses one of the most critical needs to life-long success: reading at grade level by the end of the third grade. This unique community collaboration includes our schools, civic organizations, and business leaders throughout the community working together to ensure every child has access to books. Many children may not have books in their homes and arrive at school without the knowledge and experiences they need to achieve academic success. Our shared goal is to ensure that more families have the tools and resources they need to help our children become readers and learners.

A book drive will be held on November 2 through November 20 to address this need. New and gently used books for children in grades PreK-3 are being collected throughout the community. Collection boxes are located at every Waterford school and the following locations:

• Birmingham Bloomfield Credit Union, 6375 Highland Road

• Genisys Credit Union, 4416 Dixie Highway or 2960 W. Walton Blvd

• Waterford Township Hall, 5200 Civic Center Drive

• Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce, 2309 Airport Road

• Waterford Coalition for Youth/Waterford Police Department, 5150 Civic Center Drive

• Waterford Fire Department, 2495 Crescent Lake Road

• Waterford Community Center/Waterford Youth Assistance, 5640 Williams Lake Road

Look for the book collection bins with the Waterford READS logo on it in every Waterford school and throughout the community. We're asking that you please help us fill them and give our children the support they need to be successful!
