EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN

A Career in Progress

An EDP is a systematic plan, reviewed yearly, that a student will follow detailing his/her course-work to satisfy high school graduation requirements and provide a foundation for a future career. The purpose of the EDP is for each learner to develop a unique, ongoing record of career exploration, based on thoughtfully selected and attainable career goals and educational options, that provide guidance in taking effective steps to enter a career of choice.

WHO AM I? WHERE AM I GOING? HOW DO I GET THERE?

Sixth Grade Career Competencies

  • Identify personal interests, abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.

  • Describe how work at home and/or school relates to jobs in the community.

  • Describe how work is important and attainable to all people.

  • Describe how personal beliefs and values affect decision-making.

  • Develop ability to make personal judgments about behavior.

  • Identify good study habits.

  • Recognize the importance of goal setting by using time and energy effectively.

  • Identify dreams and hopes. Explore options

  • Investigate how options expand within career cluster areas and increase educational requirements.

  • Develop personal time lines.

Seventh Grade Career Competencies

  • Demonstrate effective skills in working with others.

  • Show an appreciation for the similarities and differences among people.

  • Identify personal interests in relation to choosing a career.

  • Identify factors that are important on a job.

  • Evaluate personal study habits and explore different learning styles.

  • Identify leisure activities.

  • Explore abilities and interests in relation to specific subject areas.

  • Examine values when making decisions.

  • Identify characteristics/qualities about themselves and others.

Eighth Grade Career Competencies

  • Explore career pathways.

  • Discuss decision-making process related to careers and future plans.

  • Identify and explore at least three careers.

  • Gain awareness of available careers.

  • Describe individual skills and aptitudes required to fulfill life roles.

  • Identify strategies for managing personal finances.

  • Describe skills needed in a variety of occupations.

  • Demonstrate skills needed to obtain and keep a job.

Ninth Grade Career Competencies

  • Aptitude/interest assessment.

  • Compare career interests to aptitudes.

  • Review career pathways.

  • Be able to use a wide variety of career information resources.

  • Understand how individual personality, abilities, and interests relate to career goals.

  • Evaluate attitudes, necessary training, employment outlook, and related school subjects for jobs of interest.

Tenth Grade Career Competencies

  • Explore careers.

  • Explore the world of work.

  • Assess interests and aptitudes.

  • Show responsible decision making.

Eleventh Grade Career Competencies

  • Prepare a resume and letter of application.

  • Complete application forms accurately.

  • Evaluate personal career choices.

  • Gain an understanding of how education relates to college majors, further training, and/or entry into the job market.

Twelfth Grade Career Competencies

  • Discuss and participate in a job interview.

  • Recognize how stereotyping limits career options and restricts potential.

  • Demonstrate transferable skills that can apply to a variety of occupations and changing work requirements.

  • Increase awareness of changing roles of women and men in the workplace.

  • Update resume and references.

  • Discuss job attitudes and job success.
