What is a cyber academy?
The Waterford Cyber Academy is a public school where students
receive instruction via a computer. Students will receive
instruction on the use of the technology-based program and
support from highly qualified teachers monitoring student
progress.
What grade levels are
offered?
We offer curriculum for grades 9 through 12.
Who is eligible for
enrollment?
Enrollment is open to all students living in Oakland County and
contiguous counties.
Why should I choose the cyber
academy?
The Waterford Cyber Academy offers instruction for students who
may be homebound, home-schooled, struggling or advanced,
working, elite athletes, part of a military family, or have a
preference for this type of instruction.
What does the instruction
look like?
The curriculum provider, K-12™, which is accredited through
AdvancED, provides more than 130 core, elective, and advanced
placement cores. There are four levels of instruction: core,
comprehensive, honors, and advanced placement.
Each course has a regular weekly
schedule of assignments and activities, which includes on-line
and off-line assignments. Students will be involved in threaded,
teacher-monitored discussions with a full time highly qualified
teacher. The Waterford School District also provides weekly
contact with a mentor.
How long does it take to
complete a course?
Each class takes approximately one full semester to complete.
Based on a student’s skill and knowledge, he or she may finish
earlier or later.
What type of diploma will a
student earn?
If a student graduates from the Waterford Cyber Academy and
successfully completes the Waterford School District and MMC
requirements and takes the Michigan Merit Exam, they will
receive a Waterford School District diploma.
May non-resident students
enrolled in the Waterford Cyber Academy transfer to Waterford
Kettering or Mott High School?
School of choice for non-resident students is open at the
Waterford Cyber Academy. There are no opportunities to transfer
to the traditional Waterford high schools.
