ink: Return to Learning Student Support Services FAQ

Throughout the summer, the Waterford School District has worked diligently to create instructional plans that align with State guidelines and provide a robust curriculum. Understanding that our families have different comfort levels regarding the COVID-19 pandemic we have developed two rigorous educational options.

The first option is traditional in-person instruction. Students will attend school daily, interacting with their teachers and peers, while following the procedures in place based on the 2020-2021 Return to School Roadmap. Please note that with this option, if our community is reverted back to MiSafe State Plan Phases 1-3, students will need to remain home and learn remotely.

The second option is complete virtual learning. Our students will receive structured online instruction through Edgenuity, which is supported, supplemented, and graded by our WSD teachers and staff. There will be opportunities throughout the year for students to return to in-person instruction where classroom space is available.

We know how important this decision is for your family and want to ensure that you have as much information as possible before making your selection. There are two attached documents you will find helpful in this process. The first is the In-Person Instruction FAQ that answers several important questions, including the plans for lunch, recess, and the steps taken if there is a confirmed case in one of our buildings. The second document is the Waterford Virtual Academy Couse Catalogue for students, kindergarten through 12th grade.

Once you have reviewed all the information, please submit your selection by July 31, 2020.

I want to thank you for your understanding and patience as we lay a strong foundation for the year ahead. Please remember that our return to school plan is a living document. We will continue to monitor this ever-changing environment and keep up-to-date on guidelines from the County, State and CDC.

This school year will be different from any other we have experienced before, but our community is resilient. I know that we will continue to work together to provide our students with a safe, nurturing, and challenging environment necessary to ensure their success.
