Grant Elements

Element 1: Safe School Environment
Goal: Increase safety and security in all school buildings.

This element is designed to improve campus safety, increase security equipment and personnel, create crisis management teams, monitor enforcement, and complete comprehensive safety reviews. Following are the activities, programs and services included within this element.

  • A complete electronic access system at all elementary building will be installed.

  • A student record system upgrade will be purchased to include discipline tracking.

  • Additional security surveillance cameras will be installed.

  • Crisis Intervention Training will be provided to staff.

  • Upgraded transportation digital video cameras and equipment will be installed.

Element 2: Alcohol, Tobacco, and other Drug Prevention Activities (ATOD)
Goal: Reduce ATOD use within the District.

This element is to offer prevention programs to intervene in the development of drug and alcohol use and abuse, prevent violence among students, address tobacco use, increase positive peer pressure, and character education. Following are the programs that will be available to students through this element:

  • All Stars: A middle school substance abuse program.

  • Class Action: A high school alcohol prevention program.

  • Reconnecting Youth: High School at-risk program.

  • FAST (Families and Schools Together) program.

Element 3: Student Behavioral, Social, and Emotional Supports
Goal: Support at-risk students to keep them connected to school.

This element addresses social and emotional development of students. Services established include early intervention for at-risk students and families, screening evaluations, intervention/treatment services for students and families, referral to community providers, consultation for district staff, and training. Following are the programs, trainings, supports and activities related to this element.

  • After school programming in all middle and high schools

  • Juvenile Justice Transition Liaison support

  • Conflict Resolution training

  • Anti-Bullying training & program

  • Challenge Day

Element 4: Mental Health Services
Goal: Improve students’ mental health through increased access to services.

Identifying mental health problems early and providing appropriate services are especially important in improving academic achievement and overall student well-being. This element’s activities are intended to support enhanced integration, coordination, and resource sharing among education, mental health, and social service providers. Coordination and collaboration efforts include the following:

  • Provide training in mental health awareness to staff.

  • Community forums will provide information to parents and community members.

  • Individual plans for at-risk students will be developed.

  • Small group interactive sessions will be made available for students experiencing mental health challenges.

Element 5: Early childhood Social and Emotional Learning Programs
Goal: Improve Early Childhood Psychosocial and Emotional Development

This component is designed to focus on providing support to families with young children not yet enrolled in school. This will include working with community partners to improve access to services, provide encouragement and support in parenting, child development. Through this element, the activities and programs will be added:

  • Head Start teacher will be added.

  • The Hispanic Preschool Program will be expanded.

  • An additional First Families program will be added.

  • The Second Steps program will be available in Spanish for parents.

We guarantee to every student the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to become an effective citizen of the world.
