ELL Program and Student Services

The Waterford School District seeks to provide every child, regardless of national origin or native language, quality, and meaningful educational instruction. Consequently, students who are limited-English proficient (LEP) are provided instructional services through an English as a Second Language (ESL)/Bilingual program which is designed to meet their unique needs.

Limited English Proficient indicates that a student has yet to demonstrate grade equivalent proficiency in any of the language areas: speaking, listening, reading (including comprehension of content reading) or writing.

A student's English proficiency is assessed when a student's first language is not English OR if the student comes from a home where another language used may have a significant impact on the student's proficiency in English.
